How to read an AI safety report critically

Separate evidence, uncertainty and risk-management proposals when reading safety research.

The International AI Safety Report initiative brings scientific evidence on general-purpose AI into policy discussions. Its publications provide a useful starting point for exploring capabilities and risks.

Read the publication date and scope first. Separate demonstrated behaviour from forecasts, and check which model versions and evaluation conditions a result describes.

Our suggested reading checklist: identify the claim, follow its cited evidence, note uncertainties and ask what would change the conclusion. A report is a contribution to understanding risk, not a certification that a system is safe.
